Wetland day awareness programme

Wetlands are among the worlds most productive environments anhuman culture and provide livelihood for millions of people who live around them. However, wetlands have been heavily polluted mainly due to anthropogenic activities. 

Hence, we are conducting awareness campaign  to create awareness on wetland biodiversity and conservation issues of Thane creek. We will visit your school to educate students of 7th or8th std on this topic with the help of a PPT presentation, exhibits and documentaries.

Nature Trail

Manpada Nisarg Parichay Kendra

About Trail : Nature trails will be a 2 Hours walk in nearby forest areas where we spoted some good birds. Manpada Nisarg Parichay Kendra is a part of Sanjay Gandhi National Park Located at Thane.
Outing Date: 20th January 2019

Time : 06.30 am to 09.00 am
Highlights : Bird Watching
Duration : 2 Hours

Note : Limited Registration.

This nature trail is open for all, No age limit for that.

Meet up at entrance of Manpada Nisarg Parichay Kendra, Thane by 06.30 am.
One should follow the rules and regulations given by the Expert and should not leave the group till the nature trail ends.

Things to Carry :

Please wear dull colored clothes, Cap / hat, etc.

Water Bottle at least 1 Litter.

Binocular If possible

Apply mosquito repellent cream.

Wetland Day

Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal (PDM) is organizing a One Day National Conference in collaboration with the Association of Teachers in Biological Sciences (ATBS) and SIES College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Nerul, to celebrate the World Wetlands Day 2019. The aim of the conference is to spread awareness among the youngsters towards the Climate Change, importance of Wetlands and the need to conserve the Wetlands. Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal has arranged these conferences for last 11 years and this is the 12th Annual Conference on Wetlands.

The conference will involve a competition of  poster and ppt presentations for the UG and PG students, on the topics decided for the year. We are sure that the participants will have a new attitude towards Nature and Natural Resources like wetlands.

The Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary  is spread  over 834.16 and is the second largest in Karnataka, continuous with the Bhagwan Mahaveer sanctuary in Goa. This Sanctuary abounds with a richness of Flora and Fauna. Its richness and diversity offers ample opportunities to nature lovers to enjoy the captivating landscape. The sanctuary is generally undulating with steep slopes, picturesque deep river valleys and rich hilly forest terrain. There are breathtaking valleys, regal looking meandering rivers and the splendid scenic beauty of the forests. The forest in Dandeli is typical moist deciduous and semi evergreen types.

Here are some of the highlights which can be seen through the visit.

Birds – Malabar Trogon, Ruby-throated Bulbul, Yellow-browed Bulbul, White-bellied Blue Flycatcher, Dark-fronted babbler, Speckled Piculet, Velvet-fronted Nuthatch, Malabar Grey Hornbill, Malabar Pied Hornbill, Asian Fairy Bluebird, Emerald Dove, Srilankan Frogmouth, Hill Myna, Indian lorikeet, Crested Gowshawk, Heart-spotted Woodpecker, Blue-faced Malkoha, Brown-breasted Flycatcher… also many species of Flycatchers, Owls and other forest birds…

Mammals – Black Panther, Leopard, Indian Jackal, Barking Deer, Spotted Deer, Mouse Deer, Malabar Giant Squirrel, Flying Squirrel, Wild Boar, Indian Gaur and many other animals.

Reptiles and other creatures
– Malabar pit viper, Hump nosed pit viper, Flying lizard, Prasad’s Gecko, Termite hill gecko, many others Reptiles, Amphibians, Butterflies and other insects.

Please note – Sightings  fully depend on luck. Our experts will try to show maximum no. of species with their experience and efforts.

Rough Itinerary for the Event: (Dharwad to Dharwad)

Day 1 – 1st March  2018
7AM- Meeting point at Dharwad. Then will move to Dandeli

Day 2 – 2nd March  2018

Birding at Old Magazine House.

Day 3 – 3rd March 2018
Bird watching at Timber Depot, some other birding sites.

Day 4 – 4th  March 2018

Birding around Dandeli, Evening snacks and leave for Dharwad by 7PM .

Overnight Volvo buses are available regularly between Mumbai to Dharwad. Bookings are easily available. Participants have to do their own bookings upto Dharwad and back.

We will assist of you in case of any requirement.

Stay arrangements
– Stay will be basic but not in tents, it will be in dormitories with neat and clean toilets.

Some of the spots that will be covered for bird watching are Old House Magazine, Ganeshgudi, Shirali village, Supa dam, Dandeli Timber depot and many more bird hotspots. Will try to visit most of them but it will depend on sightings throughout the day.

From the past fourteen years a weekly school for all age groups is being conducted to create an attitudinal and behavioural shift in the lifestyle of people to that of a more environment sustainable one.

In 2009 Khuli Paryavaran Shala started for citizens who are enthusiastic about environment conservation. People from all professions, age can join this school.

Gramin Paryavaran Shala – Estd. 2015

Gramin Paryavaran Shala is the center of Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal which is specially dedicated for awareness in rural areas at grassroot level. We are focusing on four basic topics which are directly related to rural areas i.e. Jal (water), Jangal (forest), Jameen (soil) & Urja

(energy). Awareness programmes, eco-friendly festivals & environment days are done in Zilla Parishad  schools of rural areas. This center is in Mamnoli village and working in three tahasils of Thane district – rural Kalyan, Murbad and Bhiwandi.
