DANDELI WILDLIFE SANCTURAY – KARNATAKA

The Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary  is spread  over 834.16 sq.km and is the second largest in Karnataka, continuous with the Bhagwan Mahaveer sanctuary in Goa. This Sanctuary abounds with a richness of Flora and Fauna. Its richness and diversity offers ample opportunities to nature lovers to enjoy the captivating landscape. The sanctuary is generally undulating with steep slopes, picturesque deep river valleys and rich hilly forest terrain. There are breathtaking valleys, regal looking meandering rivers and the splendid scenic beauty of the forests. The forest in Dandeli is typical moist deciduous and semi evergreen types.

Here are some of the highlights which can be seen through the visit.

Birds – Malabar Trogon, Ruby-throated Bulbul, Yellow-browed Bulbul, White-bellied Blue Flycatcher, Dark-fronted babbler, Speckled Piculet, Velvet-fronted Nuthatch, Malabar Grey Hornbill, Malabar Pied Hornbill, Asian Fairy Bluebird, Emerald Dove, Srilankan Frogmouth, Hill Myna, Indian lorikeet, Crested Gowshawk, Heart-spotted Woodpecker, Blue-faced Malkoha, Brown-breasted Flycatcher… also many species of Flycatchers, Owls and other forest birds…

Mammals – Black Panther, Leopard, Indian Jackal, Barking Deer, Spotted Deer, Mouse Deer, Malabar Giant Squirrel, Flying Squirrel, Wild Boar, Indian Gaur and many other animals.

Reptiles and other creatures
– Malabar pit viper, Hump nosed pit viper, Flying lizard, Prasad’s Gecko, Termite hill gecko, many others Reptiles, Amphibians, Butterflies and other insects.

Please note – Sightings  fully depend on luck. Our experts will try to show maximum no. of species with their experience and efforts.

Rough Itinerary for the Event: (Dharwad to Dharwad)

Day 1 – 1st March  2018
7AM- Meeting point at Dharwad. Then will move to Dandeli

Day 2 – 2nd March  2018

Birding at Old Magazine House.

Day 3 – 3rd March 2018
Bird watching at Timber Depot, some other birding sites.

Day 4 – 4th  March 2018

Birding around Dandeli, Evening snacks and leave for Dharwad by 7PM .

Overnight Volvo buses are available regularly between Mumbai to Dharwad. Bookings are easily available. Participants have to do their own bookings upto Dharwad and back.

We will assist of you in case of any requirement.

Stay arrangements
– Stay will be basic but not in tents, it will be in dormitories with neat and clean toilets.

Some of the spots that will be covered for bird watching are Old House Magazine, Ganeshgudi, Shirali village, Supa dam, Dandeli Timber depot and many more bird hotspots. Will try to visit most of them but it will depend on sightings throughout the day.
